I thought it was still the case, last I remember it was but my wheel has not been hooked up for eons, so if you know anyone that wants a BRD speed7 pedal set =P Lyla/school/work is taking up a lot of time.

I guess you could make it so you don't collect points until you have stopped onto a pit box, but then you might have the problem of not collecting drivers who just crossed the line before the restart.

:edit: hmm wonder if it does after a finish...

Quote from Becky Rose :I think you're underestimating the power of the CTRA to bring about a change in general standards Sam. Whilst the issue of whether it is right or wrong to crash after races is down to you guys and how you want to run your server, the fact is you're one of the few operators to consistently have not just a busy server, but multiple busy servers.

It's not down to server capability. It's the amount of effort that would be used to monitor after race wrecking.

Wrecking after race finishes is part of the LFS culture. Trying to change this culture would take tremendious effort on an admins part to ensure rule was being ahered to. We could do it, but at what cost, and what would be gained?

Personally to me it's a vast amount of effort for something thats negligable. It would be nice to have but Sam has been doing reports largely by himself and I don't think this is something he would want to do. I know I don't. For me the culture change would be too great of an effort at this time.

I am pretty sure Sam is fully aware of the software capabilities, if he's not then he's not a very good programer, which I don't believe to be the case. I think at one point in the past we did chat about the possibility, I know I would like to see people heading back to the pits instead of crashing but in the end we did not try to enforce anything. Least that is what I remember.

Quote from Becky Rose :Same way as the US states is already in... We have Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England. If it went down to counties then world wide that would be a collossal amount of countries to manage. Remember the US states are 'states', ie: countries, not counties. The United States of America is like the EU.

The US each state is run like it's own country. They are allowed to set their own laws and own tax rates on top of the federal tax. Any law though cannot conflict with the Federal laws in place, except in rare circumstances. It's basically like the EU, just much older.

Currently I am a Brit! I just got my Visa to stay indefinatly today, just when you thought you could get rid of me!

LOL Todd I know what you mean, but in the simplest terms the EU is trying to bring about a system similar to what the US has. Lets hope they can iron out more of the kinks =) If only people were not so stubborn... hmm sounds like me...

Doesn't the points standings prove he is the best driver in F1 right now? Thought that was the whole point behind having a points per race?

Maybe other drivers have more talent? I donno, but it takes a talented driver to constantly put themselves into the points regardless of the car.

People don't seem to like him because he's cocky, but show me a good driver that isn't.

Fek those new taurus' are heavy. Thats more a truck than a car =) They are the same size as the caliber right?

Quote from ajp71 :A 1.6 isn't small, it is still the top of the range model on a lot of small cars over here, the Fiesta 1.6 can do 0-60 in under 10 seconds and it is just an everyday cheap hatchback that, like all new cars, is hugely overweight (but not in American proportions). How many cars and pick ups on a US highway can actually keep up with with a small hatchback in a straight line, let alone round a corner?

A modern 1.6 litre engine is perfectly capable of running at motorway speeds and is more than you need for a good thrash on road or track. If there isn't enough power the car is too heavy.

Any sports car with more than 250bhp that can't get 60 in under 5 seconds has a major issue and it isn't lack of power, more lack of lightness.

Well the base model Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7 V8 will do 0-60 in under 9 seconds. My Brothers ram with the Hemi will do it closer to 6.5-7.0 and run 1/4 mile in the low 15's which is the same as a Civic Type'R. Below 70MPH his truck will all but keep up to my car.

http://www.motortrend.com/cars ... specifications/index.html

I see a ton of these running around the UK, they too small for the states? Should check it out, they are all over the States too.

The honda Civic weighs 2800 pounds, see lots of people driving those too in the UK.

Mazda 3 again 2800 pounds.

I fail to see much of a difference in the car weights with the newer cars. Older cars are a different story and I think that shows how the brits live and afford more than anything. I don't see many new cars on the road that weigh under 2600-2700 pounds in the UK.

Here's another one that they sell in the states now I believe.

http://www.edmunds.com/new/200 ... stra/100913114/specs.html almost 3k pounds.

http://www.edmunds.com/new/200 ... ocus/100924402/specs.html

Another popular car in the States when I went. 2600 pounds.

I chose what people usually buy from what I have seen on the roads in both places, there are heavier cars, and there are lighter cars on the both sides of the ocean. The states no longer drive huge heavy vehicles, no more so than anywhere else. The cars are becoming smaller in the states and given a few more years a lot of the old boats will cease to be on the roads that were formed back in the day of Framed chassis vehicles.

It's one thing to constantly barrage someone's homeland in jest and joking, but when the blood starts to drip and people start flinging comments around seriously mods you seriously need to step in, other than just closing the thread which should have been deleted or at least cleaned up. There is a whole team of mods, why couldn't at least one person gone in and cleaned the thread up. I am sick of the ani-American semitism here. I don't feel welcome or enjoy reading these threads. Every time someone brings up an american car it turns into something abusive to the States. I am sick of it and the inaction from the moderators. I am done posting and looking on the forums again for a while. I don't want to spend my time looking at people bash my home country in this manner. Jokes are one thing, but these are not jokes. Not that anyone really cares because it's been like this for quiet some time.

Ajp to be clear this isn't about your comment about heavy cars in the states. That comment was true 15 years ago but it's almost negligable now in the car markets. This comment is about the other 5 page thread that was closed...

Sure I should PM this to a mod but I'm not...

AJP's right about the vastness that can be found in the states. I think 40 miles without seeing anyone at 0300 in the morning is an understatement if anything, you can drive hours on back roads without seeing a single person, or animal for that matter.

I have done my share of testing in the middle of the night; it's risky, but not as dangerous as driving to work every day. His risk of crashing literally lasts seconds as he was probably only above the speed limit for a maximum of 20 seconds at any one go.

Then there is the point that AJP made about road rallies that happen in the middle of the night here in the UK. Now those are dangerous, while they are timed stages so that you cannot cross the line before a certain time, most people sit at the line for a bit so they can run through the states quickly where they are carrying speed for much longer stints at a time, on smaller, twistier roads, and where there is more potential traffic( although I think the roads get shut down for this period) If you feel the need to rant about how dangerous this is I would suggest sending a letter to your local car club asking them to stop these rallies instead, you have a much stronger argument with them.

Hehe they are one and the same with a Different engine. GM shared BP's for the Lemans with Vauxall. The suspension wasn't the best but I put some huge tires on it and some good brakes. Once you fully compressed the suspension it was a fun car to drive =) I didn't see the initial post before editing so I don't know what was said.

89 Dodge Ram 1500

Gotta love Dodge's 360 with the 4 speed, 60MPH in first gear! Gotta love the burnouts =) So much infact we had to replace the rear end 3 times, damn spider gears kept exploding. The last time it broke we sheared the pinion shaft just after the splines.

88 Pontiac Lemans

This was a fun little car. There was a corner near my house that every day coming home from school I would kick out the rear end on, well one of those days it was pouring rain and my Brother egged me to do it anyways. i said no the rear end will not catch like it normally does because I had just rotated the tires recently. He said do it anyways, so I did. Needless to say the rear end didn't catch and we were sideways in the road. It was a good 150 yards we fishtailed back and forth before I 'thought' I saw a huge pothole and cranked on the wheel. Luckly we were mostly strait when we hit the ditch and only bent up two wheels. I then put low-pro's on it and made the car handle well by using the bumpstops for springs while taking corners, fun fun. this had a 1.4 i4.

86 Cadillac Deville

My grandma's car that I drove to school often. So much infact that I tore 3 of the 4 motor mounts doing burnouts with it. Gotta love the 4.1 v8 =)

1994 Yamaha Seca II

Not much to say about this bike, it was fun, not a ton of power, but stuck well. I went down once when I crested a hill to find a corner filled with sand.

1986 Chevy Surban

The last of my school driving vehicles. It had the 350 in it with a posi rear end. This could do some wicked burnouts too... until my grandma put it into a 20" fencepost while driving in the snow. She took a corner and the posi hit in and she just spun.

90’ Mazda 323

First car I had in the UK. Paid 2k for the first year of insurance, man that was a ripoff.

96' Peugeot 306 TD

Bought this after I fried the Mazda which kept leaking coolant. (a gallon for every 15mile trip) A very slow car and plowed better than a snowtruck, helped me build confidence in running the limit of traction as I knew I wouldn't spin around when I did, just go strait, let off and traction came back, no worries.

Peterbilt Strait Truck

This was my work truck I drove for 6 months, not this one exactly, the one I drove was a tanker. Man I miss not having to use the clutch to shift.

2005 Dodge SRT-4 ACR

My 'baby' I couldn't afford a 'real' sportscar so I bought one of these new. Decided with the ACR in the end and it's the best money I have ever spent. See other threads for more specifics on the SRT and why I like it so much.

Ahh Strobe your just jealous =) I don't see this as a 'willy wag' just interesting to see the different cars people have driven and it just happens that someone that has had some nice cars has posted first.

None of those cars the thread creator mentioned are particularly expensive. The reason why the Stang is a little in Europe is because of getting the Mustangs into Europe costs a bit of cash and of course there is always markup involved. There is nothing special about a VR6 and can be bought for cheap. Not saying they are not great cars but IMO you are vastly overestimating their monetary value.

It's not any cheaper running cars in the states, it just appears that way because more people have money to spend on things they want, instead of the government squeezing every penny out. Things are changing though and see how it is in a few years.

Dodge pulled all funding for cars in 01 and the same thing happened. Seat probably wasn't seeing any gains from the vast amount of money thats poured into factory backed teams. IMO why should they. I think Dodge went the right way with providing engineering support for the teams that want it so the manufacturer can focus on doing their job, producing quality cars.

People could say that racing stimulates improvements to design, which is does, but design improvements can only be made so as to fit to the 'rules' which can significantly hamper improvements.

People also could say that running in televised series will boost your sales, I think initially this could be true, but once people know the name this has less of an effect and the money can be better spent targeting their proper audiences most whom don't like racing.

Shame to see them pull out, I doubt they will goto WTCC, but that money can be spent elsewhere with better results IMO.

Quote from kamilek12 :so u no it is called the neon srt-4 and y isnt it a neon look at the body....... lol and i think its has to much power for what it is a front wheel drive car my mini may not be as quick in a str8 line but i will definately leave u for dust in an autocross track no offense

Ehhh ok, sure, nevermind that the ACR is the best handling FWD on the market, has won multiple autox championships and has won the 2wd rally championship in the states since the car was first introduced, even the works edition mini is slower and performs less than the ACR. Stock SRT-4 is more capable than a mini, just drives differently, no offense.

Cooper Works (which costs near $25,000, about 2k more than the ACR)
0-60 6.5-8.7 (who in the heck would make these cars do 0-60 in 8.7 is anyones guess)
60-0 123-130ft
1/4 mile 15.0- 15.5
skidpad .87-.91 which is equivelent to the standard SRT, but because of the light weight it's probably easier to drive. SRT's are front end heavy and only a competent driver will be able to reach that kind of traction.

If your mini is a cooper works they in an autox I would think it would be a fun race for both of us if you went against the ACR. The mini is lighter and better balanced, but lacks the power and brakes. But then autox is all about keeping momentum and the mini would probably be better suited. A cooper-s against a regular SRT would be a close autox again and it would be up to the drivers. If both drivers had the same skills I would say SRT, but not by much.

Get on a racetrack and the mini's advantage is taken away, not because of the power of the SRT, but because of the larger corners, which the srt could sit into better and take advantage of the better skidpad.

The SRT-4 is a budget car for sure, people knock it because it 'looks' like a neon but it's the only FWD car on the market that is capable of keeping up to a WRX or EVo once the awd advantage is done IE 30MPH =) which cost considerably more. They are a great daily driver and a good car to start into trackdays. The chassis is stiff, stiffer than the civic's, the engine is powerful, the brakes are competent, and the fully independent suspension gives it a good base to work from while keeping the costs lowish.

I keep defending the SRT, but my heart is in RWD's, just cannot afford one really. People really need to give this car a chance, it's more capable than anything out there currently.

I can't actually think of a reason to buy a diesel if you do less than 30k miles per year.

diesels are fine IMO though they can be powerful for a commuter and if you drive a lot of miles you can make up for the higher maint. costs. IIRC the latest break even point is around 15k miles for a mint diesel burning the fuel well, goodluck finding one of those =)
